FUE Hair Transplant
The FUE hair transplantation method (Follicular Unit Extraction), which began to be applied in the 2000s, has brought about several fundamental changes in hair transplantation operations that have been carried out to date. Some of the innovations brought by the FUE hair transplantation method include:
In the FUE method, the scalp is not incised(like the FUT technique); this is a very important factor for patient comfort during both the procedure and the healing process.
No suture is required after a hair transplant.
The fact that there will be no scars and incisions after the FUE hair transplant is reflected in the aesthetic appearance of the hair and stops the anxiety felt by patients.
FUE Hair transplant is performed under local anaesthesia. Operation is performed over one day by giving regular pauses.
How is FUE Hair Transplant Performed?
First, it is determined whether hair transplantation is required with the first examination. If the hair transplantation expert examines that the hair follicles are living or there is temporary hair loss, then an expert will look for solutions to strengthen the hair follicles.
Once the hairy area from where the hair is taken for transplantation is prepared for the procedure, the suitable hair follicles are collected one by one. Through the FUE motor, the hair follicle collection process is performed with punches smaller than 1 mm. Collected follicles (grafts) contain 2-3 hair cells. It is a very important point that the hair follicles are not damaged. This is directly related to the experience of the team. Since thousands of hair follicles will be removed from the donor area during hair transplantation, the small size of the tips used will affect the healing process.
Hair follicle collection is a process that requires care and effort. The patient can have up to 10.000-12.000 hair strands with collected grafts in a transplant.
After all the hair follicles are collected, they are separated. After the separation of all hair follicles individually, the transplantation process begins.
For transplantation, channels must be opened very carefully first. Channel opening is a process that requires precision and experience as much as hair follicle collection.
The channels opened at the correct size and depth affect the hair growth rate at the hair transplantation.
Another important issue is the angle of the channel where the hair follicle will be transplanted. Angles, which are the most important factor in capturing the natural hairstyle, should be given in different parts of the head. Otherwise, the hair will not take the desired shape. Failure to succeed in giving angles may even result in hair that grows in different directions.
Another factor to get the most natural result is the correct determination of the hairline. The area of the forehead and hairline should be determined by calculating the correct proportions.
How long does the hair transplant procedure take?
It is necessary to be available for an entire day for the operation. In the first 2-3 hours of the operation, the hair follicles are collected; and the entire operation can last between 5 to 8 hours including the resting periods. During the surgery, the patient can watch a movie, use a tablet computer and so on. In other words, this process is more comfortable than it is thought.
What to do before the hair transplant surgery?
After the person has selected the hair transplant clinic which he thinks is right for him and will not hesitate about, he should make an appointment and see the expert. After detailed analysis and exam, necessary information will be given to the patient.
In this examination, the patient should be able to speak with the expert without any hesitation and get the answers. This is important in terms of the patient knowing and being prepared for what he will experience during the hair transplantation and post-treatment period, as well as ensuring that the patient is comfortable and free of anxiety.
Also, the patient needs to share every detail about his medical condition with the hair transplant expert in terms of treatment planning. In particular, the assessment of the conditions and medications of diabetes, blood pressure and cardiac patients is very important. As a result of the expert's assessment, it may be a matter of delaying or cancelling the hair transplant surgery.
It is important to note that hair transplantation is a surgical procedure and every step should be taken according to the rules for both the sake of the patient and the expert.
Anticoagulant medications should be avoided at least 5 days before surgery, or at a time the hair transplant expert recommends.
A few days before the hair transplantation, the patient should avoid stress, alcoholic beverages, caffeinated drinks and smoking.
On the morning of the operation, hair should be washed; hair products like creams or cosmetic products of any kind should not be used.
Since the operation is not performed under general anaesthesia, the patient should be on full stomach before the hair transplantation.
After the hair transplant procedure
•After the hair transplantation, medical dressing is applied on the first day (the next day); the antiseptic solution will be used for care and a bandage is removed.
•How to wash your hair after hair transplantation will be explained to you by the team that will be washed on the first time and you will be informed about washings afterwards. Usually, it is necessary to wait for the third day for the first wash. At the end of the second week, the patient may return to a normal routine with his regular shampoo.
•It is necessary to protect the hair transplanted parts from external contact and trauma for one week as the hair transplantation area can be exposed. Therefore, you should lie down on your back and prevent the area to contact with the bedsheets, pillows etc. Sleeping half-sitting position is a good solution in this process. It is important not to increase blood flow to the head area with movements such as bending forward for the first 2 days.
•Do not scratch the area or touch it with your hands. (A spray might be advised to relieve itching after the procedure)
•Anticoagulant medications (if taken) should start only after the doctor's recommendation.
•After the hair transplantation, the healing process is completed within 5-10 days.
•It is necessary to avoid heavy sports, baths, pools, and sea and excessive sunlight for 1 month.
•It is a natural process that the transplanted hair strands fall in 2-3 weeks. After 2-3 months, the hair will grow and become visible again and after 6 months it will gradually have the desired position.
•Usually, the desired result is obtained between the 8th and 12th month. Sometimes it is better to support this process with PRP and mesotherapy treatments.
•After hair transplantation, hair that can be shortened with scissors for the first 3 months can be shaved after 6 months.
The patient should be careful about the following after hair transplantation:
•The doctor will tell you when you can start to use the medications that you stopped taking before surgery.
•On the first day, the hair transplant area is placed under the bandage to prevent infection.
•The bandage is removed with the first dressing the next day.
•Generally, the first wash is made by the hair transplantation clinic team on the 3rd day and the following washings are explained to patients.
•It is necessary to protect the area from external contacts for the 1st week, to lie in such a way that there is no contact with the hair, and not to scratch it.
•The area will recover within 10 days.
•You should avoid pool, sea and excessive sunlight for 2-4 weeks.
•In the first month, some of the hair strands on the hair follicles will fall, it is a natural process.
•After 2-3 months, the hair will start to grow and it will appear normal after 6 months. Hair in some areas will take longer to have its normal appearance.
*You should wait up to 12 months to see the hair transplant results.
